Engineering Design & CAD

Mechanical, product and machine design, taken from concept to fully detailed 3D models and engineering drawings that are ready for manufacturing.

Who it helps

  • Product teams and start-ups developing a new mechanical product
  • Manufacturers who need production-ready models and drawings
  • Engineering teams that need extra design and drafting capacity

Software

SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, PTC Creo, Siemens NX

Overview

What the service covers

INSPIREWORKSS provides mechanical design and 3D CAD modelling for products, machines and components. Work can start from a sketch, an idea or an existing part, and ends with parametric 3D models, assemblies and 2D engineering drawings that a manufacturer can work from.

Models are built with a clean feature structure and constraints, so they stay easy to change as the design develops. Drawings follow drafting standards, with GD&T added where the design needs it, and design-for-manufacturing thinking is brought in early, while changes are still cheap.

The same approach is behind the CAD builds on the INSPIREWORKSS YouTube channel, from a perforated sheet-metal enclosure to moulded plastic parts and cutting tools.

What's included

  • 3D part and assembly modelling in SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, Inventor, NX and more
  • 2D engineering drawings and detailing in AutoCAD or your CAD package
  • GD&T on drawings where the design needs it
  • Product and machine design, from concept sketch to detailed model
  • Sheet metal and moulded plastic part design
  • Design for manufacturing (DFM) checks on parts and assemblies

FAQ

Common questions

Which CAD software do you use for mechanical design?

AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, PTC Creo, Autodesk Inventor, Siemens NX and more. Models and drawings can be prepared in the package your team already uses.

Can you start from a sketch or an idea?

Yes. Design work runs from concept to fully detailed 3D models and engineering drawings, so a sketch, a photo of an existing part or a written description of what the part must do is a good starting point.

Do the drawings include GD&T?

Where the design needs it. Drawings are prepared to drafting standards, with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing added for the features that control fit and function.

What is design for manufacturing (DFM)?

DFM means shaping a part so it is practical and economical to make, for example with sensible wall thicknesses, bend radii and tolerances. It is applied early in the design, while changes are still cheap.
